Listen to the interview here:
Amy Reed and Leslie Barron explain how they turned their love of pets into a million-dollar business.
Amy and Leslie were neighbors and friends. As they walked their dogs together, they would discuss how much they liked dogs and how much they didn’t like their jobs. “Hmm, I wonder if we could make a business out of walking dogs?” they asked themselves as they were walking their dogs. Ten years later, Amy and Leslie run a successful pet care business and they are going to tell you how they did it on this episode of the How to Quit Working Show.

About Amy and Leslie
Amy Reed and Leslie Barron are neighbors in Ashburn, VA who have a mutual love of taking care of animals. Amy grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Leslie grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and went to the University of Nebraska. Prior to Woofie’s, Amy had 12+ years of experience in Marketing & Sales in telecom and tech while Leslie had 15+ years of experience in Healthcare.
Being pet owners all their lives, they experienced firsthand the need to make sure their pets were in the best hands possible at all times when they were away at work or while they were traveling. Unable to find a company who provided the high level of personalized customer service they were looking for, they decided to take a risk, follow their hearts, leave the corporate world and go into business for themselves doing something they both had a passion for – working with animals.
They established Woofie’s pet sitting & dog walking service in September 2004. Their first day of business they earned $10 walking one dog. Word about their service quickly spread, and soon they were walking dogs 7 days a week in 2 small towns. Over time they built a team of trusted dog walkers and pet sitters to help meet the demand. In 2011, at the request of their existing customers, they expanded their service offering to include mobile grooming. With a bootstrap investment they bought their first Woofie’s mobile pet spa van.
They have since added 3 more mobile pet spa vans so today they have 4 vans running 7 days a week. They have thousands of clients and a team of 60+ pet sitters and 9 groomers and they continue to aggressively expand their mobile pet spa services throughout the Northern Virginia area.
