Amy Zhang on how to make sacrifices to quit your job and start a business

Amy Zhang had a great job doing accounting for hedge funds. But while she was in the midst of doing her work, she realized she could do what she was doing as an employee better as an entrepreneur. Amy’s culture and upbringing taught her to be smart about money and that, along with a willingness to keep her eyes on the prize and make sacrifices has made her very successful. About Amy:

Amy Zhang is the founder and managing member of Affinity Fund Services LLC. With years of experience in the accounting industry, she works closely with alternative investment managers, from emerging managers to SEC registered investment advisors. As an ex-auditor, Amy started the Firm to “do things right from day one”. Currently, the Firm provides the following services: manage hedge fund accounting records, prepare annual financial statements, provide quarterly listing of investments for California registered investment advisers, and consult with emerging hedge fund managers to expedite their start-up process. Prior to starting the Firm, Amy worked as an audit manager at Harb, Levy & Weiland LLP (now Eisner Amper), a San Francisco based public accounting firm that specializes in hedge funds, private equity funds and the real estate industry. Amy started her accounting career right off college as an auditor in the Boston and Shenzhen, China offices at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Amy holds a master of science degree in accounting from Boston College and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Sun Yat-sen University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of California. Active in the local community and professional associations, Amy serves as a member of Finance Committee at CalCPA Society and a Board Director at CalCPA Society San Francisco Chapter. She also co-founds Financial Entrepreneurs Forum and hosts monthly/semi-monthly events. In the past, Amy served as Vice President and Chair of the Audit Committee at Children’s Council of San Francisco between 2008 and 2012. Born and raised in Southern China, Amy is fully literate in both Mandarin and Cantonese.
